Weight Loss for Boxers
Weight loss for a boxer is not the same job as a crash diet. You still have to hit, move, and recover. A realistic pace for many athletes is a gradual drop, on the order of about half a pound to a pound and a half a week, not a heroic week of water and caffeine.
Use the athlete plate for easy days when the goal is weight management. The other side of the coin is weight gain if you are trying to add mass.
Getting started without wrecking the gym
- If you can, talk with a sport dietitian. One plan beats five Instagram ones.
- Get a baseline: weight and, if possible, a real body-composition check.
- Plan meals and a grocery list at least once a week.
- Use the plate for portions. Half plants on easier days.
- Eat slowly. Stop at satisfied, not stuffed.
- Put the phone down during the meal.
- Log food for a stretch so you see the truth.
- Be consistent more than perfect.
- At a buffet or a packed fridge: veg first, then protein, then grains.
Boxing-specific warnings
- Do not starve the day of sparring and then wonder why you got hit
- Water is not optional
- If mood, sleep, or periods fall apart, the cut is too aggressive
